Naturally Dyed | Zero Waste

“The colourful dye waste hides an even more serious and sometimes invisible problem, hazardous chemicals. Some of which are already known to cause cancer or disrupt hormonal systems in humans and/or animals. With insufficient control from local authorities, these effluents are polluting freshwater resources and eventually the ocean. In some cases this leads to the build up of hazardous chemicals in the food chain and impacting the health and livelihoods of communities”

  • Natural Dyes

Responsibly sourced and packed full of wonderful colours, I naturally dye all of the yarn myself to ensure the highest quality finish. Whilst it is possible to achieve similar shades and colours, it is impossible to achieve the exact same shade which makes each colour achieved incredibly special.

  • Organic and Sustainable Fibres

Rigorous research is undertaken before including new yarns into the collection. This includes investigating the traceability of the yarn, if it has been through an intense chemical processing and the potential social and environmental impacts of the yarn production.

  • Zero Waste

From re-using surplus yarn for tufting to painting warps with the concentrated remains of a dye bath, nothing goes to waste. It is my strong belief that everything in design can be re-used and repurposed!

  • Exhaust Dye Bath

This technique ensures every drop of dye is used as the same dye bath is recycled repeatedly to give a variety of shades. This eco-friendly process is highlighted throughout many of the products as I blend multiple shades together to create ombre effects.

  • Fully Biodegradable

Due to the fabric only being constructed with natural dyes and organic fibres, this means that at the end of a product’s very long life-cycle it will be able to biodegrade without causing any damage to the environment.

  • No Bleached Yarns

All yarns used are bought without harsh chemical bleaching to make the fibre bright white. Instead, we scour the fibre using soda ash to strip the fibres of their natural oils and impurities making the yarns ready to dye.

Weaving with Nature.

Handcrafted, sustainable and luxurious; items which are made to last.

Fibres Used

Currently, my yarn is sourced through a company in Germany who specialise in sourcing organic, non-violent silk. They take pride in their commitment to transforming textile manufacturing in regards to sector’s social and environmental concerns. The silk fibre is sourced from India in the villages of Jharkhand where they help to teach the craft to disadvantaged women’s groups. Furthermore, they have strict social and environmental standards in place to meet the quality required for their GOTS certification. (Global Organic Textile Standard.)

Organic Peace Silk

  • Non-violent and cruelty free silk. This means that the silkworms complete their metamorphosis into a butterfly and leave the cocoon naturally rather than boiled alive

  • The silk is manufactured under very strict social and environmental code of ethics without child labour

  • Exceptional softness and durability. The robustness of silk is often underestimated as it is tear-resistant, has great elasticity and dirt repellant due to the fibre’s smooth surface.

  • Silk warms in the cold and cools in the heat which makes it the perfect year-round fibre

  • Fully biodegradable
